of history
Tavares is one of the oldest restaurants in Europe – open since 1784 – and still boasts the name of the Tavares brothers who took over the business in 1823. It became a cult establishment among cooks and gourmands from all around the world with a past closely intertwined with the history of Portugal itself.

Exclusive and Sophisticated
In 1861, the entrepreneur Vicente Caldeia had a desire to make Tavares “the most chic place in Lisbon”. It rapidly became a national icon and one of the world’s most exclusive restaurants.

The chefs have changed over the years, but Tavares remains one of the most sophisticated and historic restaurants in Lisbon.
